Instruction
Within the 3B Classroom, students receive instruction in four broad subject areas:
1. English
ASM uses the Engage New York English Language Arts curriculum for Grade 3. Your child will be instructed and assessed according to the four pillar skills of English language learning: reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will be able to monitor your child's progress on PlusPortals via the following gradebooks:
For at-home support/practice, your child will have access to the online levelled reading platform RAZ-Kids. Please note the Teacher's Username: ASM3B.
2. Math
ASM students study under the Engage New York Math Curriculum, with the following Grade 3 instructional agenda:

For at-home support/practice, your child will have access to the online math skills platform IXL..
3. Science
ASM uses the FOSS program to integrate Next Generation Science Standards into the Grade 3 curriculum under the following topics:

Please note, the 3B classroom is an eco-classroom. We recycle, and reduce consumption and waste, wherever possible.
4. Social Studies
ASM follows the Core Knowledge curriculum for Grade 3, including units on:

Assessment
After the first few days of getting to know each other, assessment begins in earnest and will continue for the duration of the school year. All students must undergo start-of-year diagnostic assessment:
We will also have MAP testing twice during the year in September-October and May-June.
Students will be assessed in each subject according to a number of weighted assessment areas. By gradebook, the breakdown is as follows:

Assessment

- Learning starts at 8:45am - all students should be in class before the bell rings
- Hats and water are required daily
- PE Kits are required Day 2, 4, 6 – students should carry their sports gear and change in the changing rooms
- Healthy lunches and snacks are encouraged – please make sure your child has a healthy snack for morning break and plenty of water to last the day
- 3B students have their scheduled Library visit on Day 3 – they may also exchange books before school or during classtime if their work is completed
